Beautiful road, lovely scenic view

Mode of Transport: Taxi

Goa is just a 11 hours drive from Mumbai, so whenever you get a long weekend, you can take off for this brilliant road journey, the distance is just around 600 km. We took the NH4 route I. E Mumbai - Pune Expressway - Satara - Kolhapur - Goa this route is a bit longer than the other old route but safer. The Mumbai to Goa road trip can be considered as one of the best road trips in the country where you can experience immense scenic beauty. We took a mid break for lunch and then headed straight to Goa. The best season to visit Goa is from November to January lovely weather and Goa is buzzing with mainly european tourist. To sum up it was worth the drive taken. Though a bit tiring.

Beautiful views and roads in excellent condition

Was a bit lengthy journey but the view is so amazing that going in rainy season is like enjoying every minute. Taking a rest in a restaurant on the highway and sipping a tea makes you feel refreshed and freshens up your mind to continue the journey.
Also had some beaches in the way where we could click some pics. Need to carry water and some packed food so that you don't feel bored on the way.

A great driving experience

It was a dream come true for the road trip from Mumbai to Goa. It is advisable to go to Goa via Pune through express highway. The toll expense will be on a higher side but the journey will be safe and also it will give you a driving pleasure. Also from Kolhapur or bit thereafter you will again have a feel of six track road as there will be six track road from Mumbai to Pune via express highway too. You will have to climb a mountain or a hilly road from Belgaum to Goa road which I suggest you should complete before sunset otherwise it will altogether a great driving experience.

A good drive

I have been in Mumbai since more than 3 years now but didn't get chance to visit Goa. However, we 4 buddies decided to give it a shot at New Year because of two reasons :-

1. Long Weekend
2. Too Much of Crowd

Initially we were skeptical of travelling via Car as none of us had any idea about the route. Then comes GPS and google maps in the picture. On 31st Dec 4:00AM, we left from Thane to our destination Mumbai.

Few things we took care of -
1. Petrol Full Tank
2. Carried 8ltrs of Water
3. Few and quick pit stops as we didn't want to miss the sunset by the beach!
4. Cash available
5. Short cloths.
6. Peppy loud songs

Dont miss to have Kolhapuri Misal Pav and Sizzling hot samosas at Pune

Great drive but few bad road patches

We drove down from Mumbai to Goa for the New Year eve celebrations. As always we started pretty early to avoid the traffic later in the day. Leaving by 5 am is a must if one wishes to reach early especially during the long weekends when throngs of city dwellers are heading out. We travelled by the Expressway up until Nipani where we got off and reached Goa via Ajra, Amboli and Sawantwadi. The roads were pretty good for most part with a few diversions for flyovers that were undergoing some repair work which slowed us down. I would recommend stopping at Sai Garden restaurant at Kolhapur for a snack.
