SETC bus are quite reasonable!

Mar 17, 2015

We enjoyed the travel in the bus. The staff were down to earth and good though the quality of the bus was bad. He stopped in between whenever there was a need. People can go for State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) bus as it is cost saving and we reached the destination on time. As it is a hill station for people having travel sickness it is good to carry lemon and citrus drinks with them.

Bumpy ride on the hills!

Mar 4, 2015

The bus journey was not so comfortable. I would suggest a better one. it was a bumpy ride once it reached the hills. Also donít wear jeans during the travel as you will get rashes in your thighs. But the sight you see during travel is awesome you will love to take pictures and the turns in the hair pin curves will take you to your childhood.

For long journey choose sleeper or semi-sleeper bus

Jan 22, 2015

Please plan as per headcount and If it exceeds more than 15. Better take a cab or else go by bus. The time duration by bus is 10 hrs (approx). Do not choose normal seated bus to travel. Choose sleeper/semi-sleeper or at least push-back is OK. Long journey may make us too tried. While going choose the bus and the timings. There are places on the road to visit and it starts after reaching Batlagundu. Batlagundu-Theni area has lots of places nearby to visit. These places especially made this trip most impressive for years now.

Good roads but seats are not in good condition

Jan 17, 2015

It's a semi sleeper bus in good condition and there is no charging point for charging our mobiles. The halt station is not having proper toilet facility and the food they provided is not good. The seats are not in best condition and the road is very good to travel.

Broken roads due to rainfall

Dec 6, 2014

I took SETC government bus while climbing up the Kodai mountain and the roads were broken due to rain. The curves were really bad and journey was terrible. The Holiday Resort is located in a nice place by lake view but little faraway from the bus stand and shops.

Enjoyed the travel as driver was cool

Nov 28, 2014

We would have missed this travel because we were literally late in reaching the boarding point, we thought we would reach next day afternoon. We enjoyed the travel, driver was cool and conductor too and had good sleep also. Never thought we would reach so early to KANYAKUMARI.
We should use SETC buses also for transport.

My journey to Pondy

Nov 12, 2014

We went in a government bus and it was not up to the expectations. It's better going in a car. The service was not at all nice and my advice to the travellers is its better not to go in SETC buses. They are not leak-proof better not to go in winter or rainy season. It's better to go at night during summer, it's comfortable.

Maintained SETC bus with canteen facility

Oct 29, 2014

SETC buses are nowadays kept clean, maintained in good condition and follow strict timing, they start and finish the journey as scheduled unlike the private operators who changes the schedule unless the bus is fully booked,
also SETC bus fare is very low when compared to all other operators. SETC Classic service has toilet and canteen amenities inside the bus.

It s good to travel in bus than travelling in car/ taxi

Oct 26, 2014

To avoid using a car or a taxi, we tried the public bus and found it is possible to travel by bus and reach Poovar. We boarded a SETC bus at Kanyakumari and reached the old bus stand at Nagercoil. Post lunch, when we went back to this bus stand, we were told that we could get a bus for Kaliakkavilai only from the new bus stand at Vadasery. So we took an intra city bus and got to Vadasery where we took a bus going towards Trivandrum and got off at the Kaliakkavilai station. At Kaliakkavilai, we took a KSRTC bus going towards Neyyattinkara and got off at Virali. At Virali, we hailed an auto and reached our destination, the Club Mahindra Resort at Poovar. There are many challenges in using buses and other public transport in the above sector. The signboards are all in Tamil or Malayalam with some showing destination in English. One has to be ready to ask for help and directions. However, co passengers and conductors in the buses are helpful and guide one to the destination. Bus quality is poor with the possibility of rain water leak into the bus during rains. Washroom facilities are poor at the bus stations.
