The fabled route of India on a fairy tale railway line the Konkan Railway's. Perhaps most Indians dream of doing this atleast once so we decided to hop onto the bandwagon, literally. An uneventful late night flight from Delhi to Mumbai and a last moment confusion as to where the Janshatabdi leaves (around 5:25 am) from CST or Dadar, we were safely cocooned in our seats almost half asleep. The train started almost in our sleep and slowly but surely sped away from just waking up in Mumbai. It took us quite some time, some idlis and multiple cups of coffee to get us fully awake. And here we were chugging along. Not much to really enthuse you till you coast past the famous mango orchards of Rantnagiri. That's from where the real beauty of the line starts. The ghats, the forests, the tunnels, the bridges and a few waterfalls join the scenic party. And once past Thivim you have first the Mandovi and then the Zuari backed by the shoreline to keep you company. A little after two we were chugging into Madgaon, our destination, where the laid back adventure begins.
