At the end of our weekend trip, I got a phone call from IndiGo Airlines around 10:00 AM on Sunday informing me that my flight, scheduled for 17:55 the same day, had been cancelled. This was due to construction at the airport, which they had known about for quite a while and failed to inform me until the morning of the flight, only eight hours prior. They also refused to offer any assistance or alternate arrangements. My options were to stay in Shimla for another night at my expense and miss work the next day, or to scramble to find a driver and rush to make the nine hour drive to Delhi for an evening flight there, again, at my expense. The only advice the airline representative that contacted me offered was: "it's not our fault that the flight is cancelled. " While that is true, waiting until the morning of the flight to inform a customer and then making excuses and offering no help at all is beyond unprofessional. It cost my husband and I a great deal of stress, time and money, trying to get back home in time for work the next day. We ended up having to pay a driver 8, 000 rupees ($122 USD) to drive us from Shimla to Delhi, racing to make it there in time for the evening flight, since the airline refused to transfer us to a later flight with another airline that we had a better chance of making it for. Instead of landing at 20:30 like our original flight was supposed to, we landed around 1 AM, 30 minutes later than the new flight was scheduled to land. We arrived home by 2 AM after a high-speed, eight hour drive, 2. 5 hour flight and thirty minute ride home from the airport. We got to sleep at 2:30 and had to wake up three hours later for work, with $122 less to our name, thanks to IndiGo and their extreme unprofessionalism. The worst part is their bad attitude, acting like we were the inconvenience. The phone representatives were rude, unhelpful and dishonest. I will never fly IndiGo again, which is a shame since my husband and I used to use the airline on average every two months to travel around India, but it's not worth risking this again. I have never seen behaviour like this from any other airline or company for that matter.
