Unexpected experience in Manali

My daughter wanted to see snow for some reasons we could not go for 2 years. That waiting period added curiosity and expectation to this trip since we have Club Mahindra membership Manali was finalised. Heard a lot of details like road to Manali from Chandigarg is not good. Manali roads are dangerous. It will be freezing on and on and on. Determined to see snow we booked our ticket to Chandigarg. From there to Manali by cab. (There is a direct flight to Kullu also. If cost is not a concern personally I would suggest that. We took private cab for our convenience. )

From Chandigarg to Manali :
We started at around 4:30 am mist filled morning. With family members, nice music it was a pleasant ride. Of course roads were not all that great. The credit goes to the driver, stopped at a road side dhaba and had panner parantha, hot chai. The dhaba was decent enough, very good food can't expect perfection in hygiene. There was a long tunnel in our way think it was around 3 kms. Kids were shouting all through. It was beautiful to see Beas river all along during travel. We travelled from mountain to mountain and after around 9 hours journey we reached Manali. The climate was good, big question from my daughter 'Where is the snow? '.

That day we took some rest went to Hidimba and Kadothgajan temple which are of historic importance. Had a very good dinner at mall road. For vegetarian we opted satyam for Punjabi we opted shere Punjabi. Both are adjacent to each other. The owners were courteous, food was also good.

Day 2. Feb 14th: My daughters birthday!
As a surprise we took her to Solang valley, Rohtang pass is closed due to heavy snow. On our way we hired full set snow dress for all of us. The charge 200 to 250 Rs per sethe. They also give package for skiing, snow scooter ride buts it's better you go to Solang valley and take rides. You get it for a better price as we approach Solang valley the visuals were mesmerising. Snow capped mountains, greeneries, what a sight. We felt proud of our country and we thanked god for giving this opportunity to enjoy all these. It was a Sunday heavy traffic. I would suggest week days to visit these spots. No one wants to see nagging traffic, honking horn during holidays right. I got down from my car went and identified a spot for our cake cutting. My daughter finally saw snow. She was very happy! Jumping, throwing snow on each other, lying down she was having fun! We cut the cake and shared it with people around us. Then came the surprise! Suddenly my kids started telling they were feeling giddy almost fainted:( first my daughter felt sick, followed by my son. I took her to the car, gave some warmth, allowed her to take fresh breath. Since we were doctors we could identify the problem that was a lesson for us also. It is advisable not to get over exited at higher altitudes. We could not do any activities. Aborted that days plan came back to room. Safety first. After some warmness and good food they felt al-right. That day we took it easy spent time at resort. There is a restaurant called shan e Manali. On Manali naggar road, decent food, courteous staff.

Day 3 Feb 15th:
Life always gives us second chance if we have right attitude. Today we were well prepared. Ventured one more time to Solang valley. Wearing all dresses on our way, kids were little sceptical. We gave them confidence. This time it's Monday not much crowd. We got a package for snow scooter, skiing, four wheel ride and rubber tubing slide activity for 2000 rs for 4 of us. This time we had a blast:) enjoyed nature, enjoyed all activities! Word of caution if you have kids hire 4 wheel drive vehicle to reach activity sites and come back by that. That will allow you to enjoy comfortably. We all felt good about coming back 2 nd time and taking good memories.

Evening we went to Naggar castle, nice architecture had a hot chai at the restaurant & enjoyed the view. Later part of that day we went to vashist temple, I saw hot spring there without a second thought jumped in to it. What a divine experience. Next day we started our journey back to Chandigarg. This journey was not only about sightseeing. It helped us and our kids to learn about how to handle crisis. As a family how we can help each other. How not to give up in life to feel proud about our country. Enjoy fellow human beings love and finally how to thank good god for his creation.
