Amazing Drive

Jan 12, 2017
Mode of Transport: Car

The road to Coimbatore from Bangalore via Salem is well maintained. Though there are multiple tolls its worth the pay. It takes approx 5 to 5. 5 hours to reach Coimbatore.
Enroute there is shiva temple built by Vinayaka mission which is a must watch.

A relaxed weekend trip

Jan 4, 2016
Mode of Transport: Car

This is a trip if you want to go away from chaos of Bangalore. We started at 3:30 am taking Marathahalli - Electronic City - Krishnagiri - Salem - Coimbatore.

Road conditions are very good with signs and diversions are properly marked.

Toll charges will come around 425/- that is standard. Since we started early traffic was very less and we could maintain a speed of approx 72 Kmph (including breaks).

We were in Coimbatore by 8:45 am and to our surprise such a nice infra for a such small city.

Return trip started on sunday around 10 am on sunday and the roads are so good that you are restricted by car. (not even traffic). However post Salem Bangalore traffic joined and the speed reduced a lot and tolls took almost 20 + mins to cross. By 4:45 we were in attibele after which Bangalore traffic is nothing to write about.

Excellent drive!

The drive from Bangalore to Coimbatore was simply excellent. We opted for the Krishnagiri-Salem-Coimbatore route. About 320+ kms and took us all of 5 hours. We started early from Bangalore at about 5 a.m. and at a comfortable pace we arrived at our hotel in Coimbatore by 11 a.m. (I'm told most can reach Coimbatore much quicker but we took longer; this with a couple of short break stops along the way).

ROADS: The big plus is the roadways. Highway most of the way and very well kempt roads. We had absolutely no trouble at all and the drive was extremely peaceful. Also maybe we lucked out on a holiday because it wasn't very crowded and the roads were quite a delight.

VIEW: Also I never knew this but the roads to Coimbatore offered some scenic views. All this put together, ensured us a pretty good drive.

I'd definitely suggest driving down to taking an overnight public transport because there is much to see and experience enroute Coimbatore. Also plenty restaurant and snack stores you can stop for quick breaks.

Too many speed breakers in this route

Jul 27, 2014
Mode of Transport: Car

The only stretch that I felt was annoying was the short flyovers in the stretch between Erode and Coimbatore which had speed breakers. The flyovers are at regular intervals, so just as you pick up speed you have to break! These speed breakers serve no purpose. Otherwise overall great journey!

Road Drive Is Fun

Jan 31, 2014
Mode of Transport: Car

It is safe to drive to Coimbatore from Bangalore due to the express way only for the toll charges which will be about Rs.400/- one-way. While going from Bangalore you can stop at Krishnagiri at A2B for a bite and have lunch in Coimbatore or if late there are good hotels are available on Salem-Erode stretch ( Saravana Bhavan).rn rnEvening time only crossing the Salem stretch in peak timing like 5.30Pm to 7.00 Pm is bit congested due to office goers other wise it is good drive.rnrnMorning traffic is pretty decent ...
