I am an NRI and have come to India on vacations. I travelled from Bhopal to Pune on June 18, 2014 in Verma Travels Bus, 4534 (Plate # UP.75.M.4534). I had two day stay in Pune to attend an important meeting, and my father travelled along with me. We had some highly valued clothes worth around from Rs 15000 to Rs 20000, along with some accessories costing between 5000 to 8000 including laptop chargers, mobile chargers, a pair of shoes (around Rs 4000), few gift items, and some medications.
We boarded the above mentioned bus at boad office, Bhopal at 5 on 18 June 2014, and the bag was checked in by the bus cleaner Raju in the luggage trunk. The seat number (L9 and L10) were written on the bag before it was checked in.
On June 19, 2014, we arrived in Pune. We asked the Bus Driver Kishore to drop us at Nasik Gate. When the cleaner Raju opened the trunk, the bags were not found there. This was totally unexpected as every bag had its seat number. Thankfully I was carrying everything important along with me in my backpack. So we did not create any panic as clothes can be bought again.
Cleaner and driver suggested that any other passenger might have mistakenly taken the bag and would inform them about it. They asked us to wait for somebody to call us and inform about the bags. They took us until the last stop 'Nigadi', which was the last stop in Pune and it was far away where we originally had to get down. Driver dropped us there and left.
We went back to the previous stop and inquired about the bags, but did not find any clue.
We also reached Verma Travels office in Pune and called Bhopal office, but got a very negative response as if it was our mistake. We were told that we are supposed to take care of our luggage in spite of no mistake of ours.
I decided to find it myself and to call all the passengers. I had taken the list of all the passengers from the driver. So I called everyone from the list. We were terribly late for the meeting which we had come for and postponed it until next day as we did not have proper clothes as well.
Next day I again called a few passengers and one of the passengers informed me that the cleaner took out a dark gray bag along with other luggage at Ruby Hall stop. He closed the trunk and boarded into the bus leaving the bag on the road. As per that co-passenger nobody picked up the bag and it was kept unattended.
I checked with the auto drivers at Ruby Hall but nobody could help us. I then reported the missing bag report at the nearest police station. I had to buy a new bag worth 3000 and some clothes for myself and my father, mobile charger, shoes.
On our second day in Pune, we lost our half day searching for bag, waiting at the police station and paying auto fare to go to random places. This caused me and my father lot of mental distress, my father is senior citizen and he needs to take some medications on daily basis. He missed his medications for two days and was exhausted due to too much stress and exertion.
I cannot let go of this mistake easily as it might happen to me or others in future. I hereby request you to please take an action on my complaint and provide me with proper compensation. I will only be satisfied if an apology is provided along with appropriate compensation. I appreciate your business and expect that you take your customers convenience and safety with highest priority.
