The bus service may not be fruitful but the road has lot to offer

Jul 11, 2015

Place to Travel - Bir Billing, Dharamshala

Bus - HRTC

Bus Type - A/C, Non-A/C

Time taken to travel - 12 hours

The basic reason to pick HRTC bus is that the roads are not smooth and government drivers are the best bet you would get as far as buses are considered. The other options like personal cars can be preferred as well. Please avoid options for car pooling thru Bla Bla car/other online portals for that matter as it can lead to poor journey experiences.

The Journey begins once you cross Punjab border and enter the land of Nomads. The bus service may not be fruitful but the road has lot to offer. The scenic view, frozen mountains, beautiful sunset, Tibetan Monasteries, 24 * 7 cold weather, River side view (you are allowed to enter into the water and experience Himalayan water), Rafting, Aviation sport - Paragliding. Paragliding sport has also increased a lot of tourism as Bir Billing is world's no. 2 site for Paragliding. Tandem rides (Passenger rides) are also available for visitors to get an experience of flying. People who come to cricket match in Dharmashala also visit to Bir Billing to enjoy the beauty of Himachal through flying. The flying experience not only gives you an experience of the beautiful weather, but also breathtaking view is unimaginable. In bir, the place named "Four table" is a good restaurant to hang out. (Please book 4 hours prior, as the restaurant has only 4 tables to offer for booking). Other options in Bir are Garden Cafe, Joy Cafe etc.

The place can also be used for Trekking as locals are also very supportive.

Advice to travellers - Although options are available for best stay, use more options to live in a natural habitat and use options for exploring the radius of Bir Billing and Dharamshala. The poor politic road experience will surely be compensated by what the place has to offer.

Incredible one and bus offers required amenities

Jun 16, 2015

I have travelled to Shimla from Delhi ISB Kashimiri Gate Bus Stop, boarded the bus at 9 Am in the morning reached Shimla at 5 Pm. The journey was an amazing one the bus we travelled is a Volvo bus it is an multi-axle sleeper 2+1. The condition of bus is good, there were many dhabas in the way, the bus took a halt after reaching Karnal had our lunch at one of the dhabas. The bus had charging points, pillows and water. We reached Shimla by 5 Pm the next day visited Kufri. Visiting Kufri is best if it's having snowfall, otherwise one will find nothing there.

But if you are going to travel Shimla for very first time, then you can consider visiting it, but I'll suggest you to visit other areas near to Shimla too.

Good journey and offers wonderful facilities

May 19, 2015

Jogindernagar is about 60 km from Mandi and about 80 Km from Kangra. Himanchal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) provides intercity and interstate bus services from Mandi. The distance of Jogindernagar from Pathankot (Punjab) is about 150 Km. And from Dharamshala it is about 75 Km. The strategic location of Jogindernagar allows tourists to travel other famous places and hill stations like Barot. Barot is also called mini Switzerland. It is great point for holidays.

Good comfortable journey at reasonable price

Apr 26, 2015

Experience with HRTC was very good and no need to worry about the fare as well it is not so high and view outside bus during journey were superb. You can also see some glimpses of Kalka Shimla Rail Line from bus near Shimla and Shimla Bus Stop is also one of good attraction due to its location and new design.

Good services and well-behaved staff

Apr 22, 2015

If you are to go to any place in Himachal, prefer using HRTC bus. The best thing about them is their timing. They do not stop at each and every place like the private operators. The staff is also well behaved. Prefer choosing HimSuta or HimGaurav only.

Once in your life time experience

Apr 12, 2015

Although the roads of Shimla are very twisty. You may feel nausea due to it but then with a comfortable bus you will surely enjoy the sight of beautiful Shimla. The bus journey is comfortable with all the best seats available. Look outside the window the glory of mountains will attract you. The bus drivers are helpful and will keep on helping you as and when required. Be cooperative and then they will be your friends during travel. Just carry vomit bags.

Awesome four lane road!

Mar 23, 2015

The road from Una to Chandigarh was no doubt very good but the 4 lane roads in Punjab from Nangal to Kurali is awesome. It takes only 2:30 hours for the journey. I travelled through Haryana Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) AC bus having fare about Rs 200/-. Only CTU, HRTC and PRTC has facility of AC buses but you should go for HRTC then for CTU and then at last for PRTC. As the condition of PRTC AC buses are very much poor. HRTC are good both for service, comfort and fares. CTU buses have slightly more fare for AC buses. The bus I used to travel doesn't have any charging points, food, water etc.

Mar 23, 2015

Road was good in Shimla and bus was in good condition. I visited Shimla last year and we visited Shimla 2-3 times. Himachal Pradesh is very close to Chandigarh. Natural beauty is very good, toy train ride is good and over all the sightseeing places are very good.

An overnight 14 hours bus travel

Mar 20, 2015

We travelled at night so most of the journey was spent sleeping. When we woke up we were about 30 km from McLeod. The bus was fairly clean and on time. Staff wasn't anything great, but it wasn't bad either. We boarded from Kashmere Gate and got down at McLeod. The total time involved was around 14 hours.

An overnight bus travel!

Mar 19, 2015

It's a good idea to travel by bus from Delhi to Shimla and it's an overnight journey. We can book ticket online for Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus service. It runs from ISBT Kashmiri Gate and service is good. But if ticket is not available online still you can get ticket from counter as only a fixed quota is available for online booking. In case of fail transaction refund process is slow. In offline booking, you can book only one way ticket. You cannot book return ticket from the counter.
