The break was the best acquaintance for us. The abode is admirable and amongst Coffee acreage authoritative the break absolute abroad from the boon docks hustle- bustle. The abode is actual alluringly decorated. The hosts were wonderful. Their accommodation fabricated our break home abroad from home. One gets up in the morning to the chirping of birds. The abode is visited by many altered affectionate of birds and has admirable annual collection. The Coorg cuisine was actual good. We all accept abusively to absolutely appointment this abode afresh alone to break at this abode for a few days. Thank you Mr. Robin and Mrs. Malige for a admirable break and authoritative our cruise a actual memorable one. Visited Coorg with 2 added families. The break was the best acquaintance for us.
Location is awesome, climate is too good. I went with my family enjoyed a lot had very sweet memories, nice estate they show all spices fields, tea estates. Food is also too good with different tastes for us. Couples managed the whole home stay with very nice service.
This was an excellent place. At night it is so calm and you can live your life to the fullest. When i visited the place they didnt have a cooking section there. So, we had to order it and they bought it for us. But, it was a home food and not a hotel one. And the taste was good.
The surrounding is Coffee plantations all arround in acres. Coorg Kabini forest is amazing. The resort is homely. Home-stay concept is new and worth. It was not a service, it was relationship!
The place is very serene and an excellent getaway from city life. The hosts are very hospitable and make you feel like home. The rooms are very well done and the interiors are well planned. The food is very tasty and homely (especially the desserts). I would recommend this place for anyone who wants to take a break from the rat race.
This is a holiday for those who do not want the disturbance of TV, would welcome hospitality with some discipline and are looking for a peaceful holiday amidst nature. The Kariappah\'s welcome guests to their timings and are wonderful hosts who like to treat guests well but expect the same in return. We enjoyed it. The bungalow is nestled amidst the plantation after a drive of about 2 km into the plantation area. Mrs Kariappah is the most wonderful hostess. The cuisine that was served during the stay was delicious. We had the opportunity to taste various Coorg dishes in chicken, freshly made vegetables with minimal spices, their special breads (puttus), heavenly aroma of rice and finger licking desserts. Though we had options to visit other resorts and eat out if we wanted, coming back to the bungalow and eating there was always a preferred option. Bonfires, treks and fishing are acitvities that can be arranged for if the guests desire.

(http://wikimapia.org/13949742/Polaycad-Bungalow-Mr-Robin-Mrs-Mallige-Cariappa) As has been written in several earlier reviews Mr & Mrs Cariappa play good hosts. The home-stay itself is located in a quiet location, best if you want to spend some time with nature. Also good for honeymoon couples. I might have added more negative things in my review which may be because both families had kids. Our overall experience was not bad though.
Polaycad (translated as Forest with a river running through it) Estate is a wonderful retreat in Coorg just 1.5 kms from Ammati. Our stay at Polaycad was a delightful experience given that we had a very very hastily planned vacation. Mrs. Mallige Cariappa very graciously agreed to take us in for two nights (12 and 13th August 2009) at very short notice. Throwing a few things together we were off to Mysore and then to Coorg. Polaycad can be reached via Titimati as well as via Kushalnagar, of which the latter road is in a better condition than via Titimati. The drive through Titimati is more beautiful though, so take your pick. The estate itself is situated on top of a hill and one look at Polaycad bungalow was enough to convince us that we\'d made the right choice. Nestled amongst the coffee plantation is an old house built in 1920 but superbly maintained in it\'s original state. The L-shaped house has a large verandah running the length of the house which is an ideal place to sip your coffee and listen to the river rushing past in the valley below. The verandah faces a beautiful garden lovingly grown by Mrs. Cariappa with orchids and anthuriums as well as unusual trees like Purple guavas and australian guavas. Mallige made us feel right at home and we were settled in comfortalbe in a double room. Her hospitality was the best part of your stay there. We feasted on Coorg cuisine like Mutton pepper fry, Akki rotis, sannas and a very tasty bittergourd curry. Although this was our third visit to Coorg, and we\'ve tasted Coorg cuisine before, I must say that her cuisine was quite unlike what we\'ve tasted before. Overall, we\'ve has a wonderful experience at Polaycad and would certainly recommend it to others who wish to visit Coorg.
Staying @ Polycad was an amazing experience! We were looking for a laid-back vacation and that\'s exactly what we got! And not to mention, our 2-yr old who had a marvelous time playing around! Polycad is just amazing with a warm and wonderful hostess (Mr. Cariappa was traveling, so could not meet him)! The Coorgi food is just out of the world, and the service was absolutely amazing! Made great friends with other guests staying there, and had a great time, with Mrs. Cariappa leaving no stone unturned to make our stay as comfortable and homely as possible! Could not have hoped for a better vacation!
It was a sudden decision to spend a weekend at Coorg. A search on HolidayIQ brought up reviews of Polaycad Estate, and I promptly called up Mr Cariappa to book a room. The visit went splendidly. We took the train from Mumbai to Mangalore, and took a taxi (which we had pre-booked from Cel Cabs). It took about four hours to reach Polaycad Estate, via Madikeri and Ammathi, and Mrs Cariappa was waiting for us with a smile. The home-made food was especially good, and it was predominantly non-vegetarian in accordance with our wishes. On that particular weekend we were lucky to be the only guests at the estate, so we had undivided attention of the hosts. The presence of five(!) dogs made the experience even more unforgettable. Even if you aren\'t an animal lover there\'s no need to worry, because the dogs are well-trained and don\'t enter the living quarters. My wife even learned to wear a saree Coorgi-style, thanks to Mrs Cariappa! There may not be much to do by way of activities, but we enjoyed walking around the estate and seeing the coffee beans, pepper etc. being processed. Moreover, Polaycad was an ideal \'base camp\' from where we could go out during the day to explore Coorg and get back in time for a crackling bonfire, a delicious supper, and a shot of homemade apricot brandy.
I went to Polaycad Bungalow in the December. I had heard that the weather there is very cold in winters. But to my luck, the weather was overcast throughout the day (thanks to the rains in Chennai). We drove from Hasan, only to find how different these places were. The surroundings are so peaceful, you can listen to the minutest details around. The bunglow is located at an amazingly location, and as I approached it, I almost pinched myself, because it was hard to believe and imagine how wonderful my stay was going to be for the next 2 days . . The Cariappas are and awesome couple. Very warm and caring. It was almost like coming home to me, when I was asked about how my journey was. The bungalow is very beautiful and also a lot of work has gone into decorating the verandas. Got plenty of photographs hoping to copy that at my home :). The view out of the room is splendid. The moment you step out of the room, there is a well maintained lawn and then its coffee plantations wherever you see. The charges include bed and breakfast and the breakfast served is mouth watering. To have some authentic s. Indian food like puttus (other than the usual idlis/dosas) food along with conventional toast butter is just out of my dreams. Also the variety in the lunch and dinner was inter sting too. Overall NO COMPLAINS about the food. The only thing is that the place is too much secluded from any of the tourist spots. There is a temple and Abbi falls nearby, but it takes up one day and then you don't have anything else to do. Otherwise if its a group of people who have decided to spend time away from the hustle & bustle, this is an ideal place.
Nice stay. Comfortable and clean rooms. Excellent hosts who made you feel part of the household -but yet unobtrusive enough when required. Good travel links for sightseeing nearby. Very good food
It was a great experience staying at the Polaycad estate with the Cariappas. Found it difficult to rate it as a "resort" since it isn't one. It's a very good homestay with the Cariappas staying in the same house unlike some homestays nearby . . The house (a 1920s one), the location and the hosts were simply wonderful. Will recommend Polaycad to others going to Coorg.
DR ASHOK AMIN
Cariappa's are nice people. Down to earth and loving, caring and understanding. Nice estate to spend vacation, and enjoy nature and company.
It was a great experience staying at the 1920\'s Polaycad Bungalow with Mr & Mrs Cariappa. Very warm and caring couple who cater to all your needs. It was almost like coming home to me, when I was asked about how my journey was. Probably words do not make justice to the kind of service we received from cariappas. The bungalow is very beautiful and also a lot of work has gone into decorating the verandas. The view out of the room is splendid. The moment you step out of the room, there is a well maintained lawn and then its coffee plantations wherever you see. It was a truly sublime experience. A must go place for all age groups. Over all experience was very enjoyable. The ambience and the weather were complementing each other. We had some apprehensions about the accommodations, but once we settled into the Bungalow we were very comfortable. It is a place away from the hustle-bustle of the city. The period of November would be the right time to be there. A perfect weekend getaway as its just 5 hrs drive from bangalore. Also its accessibility to various tourist places like Iruppu falls, Nagarhole, Kushalnagar, Golden temple etc makes it an ideal place to stay.
