Plantation Trails, Coorg
Tata Coffee Ltd Polibetta
Video Review (1)
This is the actual place if you want to experience the stay in coffee plantation. It is managed by TATA. Located in Pollibetta which is 45 km from Madikeri town but worth visiting if you want to relax in between plantation. We stayed in Thaneerhulla cottage in Woshully estate (largest coffee estate in Coorg). Although the cottage was not that of colonial feel which is written in many reviews but was well maintained with facilities for badminton, chess, cards, carom, magazines, wifi so that whole family can relax. Rooms are of adequate size with good cleanliness and are air conditioned. There is common dining area for three rooms. Two people are there to look after your needs, provide good service. Food is good especially the breakfast has lots of option. In evening they take you for plantation safari in open Tata safari which is really awesome. They explain you the process of the coffee making. In morning they take you for nature walk and birdwatching. Birds are only seen during monsoons not other times. So must go if you want to relax in lap of Mother Nature.
Plantation trail by Tata Coffee estate comes from the times of British era built- which was taken over and now run by the Tatas as there coffee estate. There 3-4 are bungalows that accommodate 25 rooms across the plantations. Each of these bungalows can be taken up entirely or per room basis. We stayed in the Wishfully Bunglow- highly recommended. Every bungalow has one caretaker and dedicated chef who takes care of all the needs of guests personally. Food was excellent - homely and freshly made. You can give your choices and they will make that for you .. Coffee they make is excellent. No regrets absolutely. Surrounded by and amidst the coffee plantations and oak and rosewood trees, it's full or flaura and fauna- all you can see around is green and colours of flowers, all you would hear is birds chirping and singing. You will also find wild elephants around that you must be careful of. They will take you for a safari ride in the plantations where apart from coffee you will also find pepper, supari, jackfruit, spices. You can also go bird watching in the mornings or play golf in the golf course they have. In short- coming from Tatas - one of the best that you can get around to stay when your in Coorg.

We stayed in Woshully Bungalow from Feb 27 10 to Mar 3 10. The Tata\'s have ensured that the brand name is kept in-tact. Its an amzing place to stay. The guest house (as they call) is neatly maintained, amazing location right in the middle of Coffee estate. The staff here are very co-operative. The interior decoration is good. The quality of food is good but variety available for breakfast, evening snacks are only limited. No Ala-carte, as this is the only decent place around you have to manage with what is served. But that does not mean food is bad. Its good (quality and quantity) but lack of choice is all we experienced. Anubody going should stay either in Woshully Bungalow or Kottabetta Bungalow as the views are good here. The other bungalows are good but they lack the scenic view of coffee estates/nature.
We as a family wanted to go for a relaxing holiday which did not involve too much time in travel. We found Coorg to be a destination which was close to Mysore station and easily motorable. The climate was cool and it was not a bustling city. We were guided to the hotel by its staff. The place was a spacious bungalow located on top of a hill, in a coffee plantation with big comfortable rooms, each room having a different view of the plantation. The staff was very hospitable and provided us with excellent meals keeping our taste buds in mind. We shared the bungalow with other families who were also there on a holiday. We also took trips to the tea, coffee plantations and to a waterfall nearby. We had a restful time. I would like to spend more time in the bungalow itself and carry more books to read.
I stayed at Plantation Trails back in 2006 and decided to go there again this year (May 2010). This time, I was allotted a room at a different bungalow (named Surgi). The location is awesome--serene and beautiful. The bungalow itself is well furnished, and reasonably well maintained for its age (quite old). The food is a touch on the expensive side (~Rs.350 per head per meal) and was oily + spicy to start with, but the cook (one assigned to each bungalow) quickly changed the style after we told him about our preferences. Don\'t miss the Tata Coffee golf course nearby. Guests of plantation trails can visit the golf course any time. It is impeccably maintained and a pleasing sight for city-sore eyes.
