Heritage Destinations in India

The civilization in India dates back to over 2,50,000 years ago with the settlements of prehistoric man, particularly on the banks of rivers. Cave paintings are found in Madhya Pradesh and Haryana. Over the coming millennia, there was significant development in the tools and techniques of these humans which led to the Indus Valley Civilization. The Indus Valley Civilization is one of the three most ancient and historically significant civilisations in the world and was located along the banks of the river Indus. It eventually disintegrated due to water shortage and the inhabitants moved towards modern day India.

The Spice and Silk Route in India

Centuries later, India was a booming hub of academics, agriculture and modernisation. There were several dynasties such as the Magadh, Mauyran and Cholas. India became famous around the world particularly for quality silk and spices. It saw a rapid rise in international trade which led to the interest of western kingdoms. Soon, the subcontinent fell prey to the conquerors such as Alexander, the Arabs and Turkish Empire. The most significant was that of the Mughal Empire. Eventually the country was taken over by the British East India Company and was colonised for over 200 years until the Independence in 1947.
