Adventure Destinations in India

India is a land of diverse ecotomes with a variety of adventure destinations that will suit everyone. So if you are an adventure junkie and debating about whether or not to take a trip around India to enjoy all that there is on offer; my advice to you is to take the leap and you will not be disappointed. However, if you need a little persuading, then continue reading.

Adventure sports across the land

Adventure tourism in India is on the rise, with a variety on the platter for every multi-faceted adventure seeker. The adventures places in India are located throughout; and there are plenty of divergent activities to satisfy your every requirement. If adventure sports in India is what you seek – paragliding, skiing, scuba diving, para sailing, and rock climbing are but a few thrilling options. Major paragliding sites in India lie in Himachal, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan, all of these spots overlying gorgeous and scenic parts of the country. The Trans-Himalayan regions to the North and North-East of the country are home to some beautiful facilities for skiing such as Gulmarg in Kashmir and some scenic routes for trekking by the foothills of the Himalayas. Gharwal, Kumaon and Ladakh are breathtakingly beautiful, the very picture of utopia on earth. The Himalayas are the source of some raging rivers flowing through picturesque landscapes and are ideal for white water rafting. Adventure travel in India is never complete without white water rafting in the famous River Brahmaputra.

For those of you who are not too fond of the cold, adventure places in India include the blistering but mesmerising Rajasthan, the fun-loving beaches of Goa and the exquisite beaches of the Coromandel and Malabar Coast. The adventure resorts by the beaches add to your experience, enriching your stay there, like the Resort de Coracao in Goa or the luxury resorts along the coast of Malabar. Rock climbing is one of the more popular adventure destinations in India such as in the Western Ghats, the Aravalli range and Rohtang Pass to name a few. If rock climbing is not your cup of tea, you can try micro-light flying in Bangalore or parasailing over the Arabian Sea in Payyambalam; the options are endless.

The low seas and the high roads

All adventure tours in India promise you one thing; an experience of a lifetime that you are likely not to forget for a very long time! Goa promises just that – sunny beaches, scuba diving, snorkelling, fishing and underwater walking. If crowded beaches are not what interest you, the pristine beaches of Andaman are beckoning you.

For the biker in you, Khardung La, the world's highest motor road, awaits you. Do not worry if you are afraid of heights, you can ride your bike through the hypnotic salt pans of Rann of Kutch. Riding through the seemingly endless salt marshes is meditation for the soul. The bike ride can have a fitting finale with a hot air balloon ride and giving you a bird's eye view of the salt pans.

The legendary jungles of India

Adventure holidays in India can also be wildlife themed for the passionate explorer in you. India is home to some endemic species which cannot be seen anywhere else in the world. Bandhavgarh in Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of tigers, therefore the chances of your seeing a tiger are definitely higher. The Indian one-horned rhinoceros in the Kaziranga National Park, Snow Leopard in Hemis National Park and Gir National Park - the only home to the Asiatic Lion in the world are must-see safaris and are found in every wildlife adventurer's bucket list. Camel safaris in Jaisalmer is another popular adventure trip in India. Exploring the remote Thar Desert and watching the sun rise and set on the back of a camel is an experience that you won’t be forgetting soon.

If you are thinking about travelling to India seeking adventure, you might want to do it or you might regret not enjoying the bounty that is on offer in adventure India. I am borrowing the famous words of Mark Twain here when it comes to giving you advice, “So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” Plan that trip of an adventure holiday in India!
