Bumpy rides due to road conditions

Apr 11, 2016
Mode of Transport: Taxi

The road was good for some kilometers however some stretches were too bumpy. There is a fixed rate incase somebody travels by sedan or hatchback or SUV. Best thing is to travel by sedan or SUV so that one will not experience the travel fatigue. Overall, a nice journey.

Feb 4, 2016
Mode of Transport: Taxi

Entire road is nice and do travel in morning so that riverview is available all the way. Have refreshments and start again. Keep time and be there before 3-4 pm take lunch take rest and enjoy the beautiful evening at mg marg. Also facilities like bar and pubs are available like pub 61 etc. While travelling the road is quite broad and I found many couples travelling by bike to reach. Its a ways for extreme adventure and flexibility.

Drive from Siliguri to Gangtok is gorgeous by road if you have the stomach for an adventure

Jun 26, 2015
Mode of Transport: Taxi

The drive from Siliguri to Gangtok is gorgeous by road if you have the stomach for an adventure in the monsoons. From the foothills of Siliguri as the road snakes towards the hills and once you cross Sevokea 20 kms, an agitated Tista river flanks the right side all through the 125 km journey. The raging river rises, meanders, break shores and gushes past below and beside you as the vehicle moves over a bridge. The pelting rain and undulating hills makes the journey memorable.

An overwhelming fear of a disaster-about-to-happen, hangs in the air when large lorries tear-down (literally) the road amid-st a constant threat of landslides from denuded portions of the mountains making the trip more adventurous than it is.

It is soul-satisfying. The vehicle drove through flowing water on a patch of road barely 15 feet wide with a deep chasm to the right. The driver stopped, peered up towards the rolling mountain stones, decided we had time before the larger boulders came down and drove on

51 km before Gangtok a road sign pointed left towards Darjeeling, the milestone reading 141 kms. We ploughed on across the Lepchu Johra Bridge only one vehicle at a time, towards Gangtok.

At Ranipool 12 kms before Gangtok a pavement with broad railings on either sides run alongside the road for the entire distance. School-going children, residents, old and young are seen walking through out the stretch colourful umbrellas in hand.

The taxi came to a halt outside The "Tashe Delek" hotel situated in the new market, as if an old one ever existed, underplayed by its beauty due to the small entrance on the market road. But I soon discovered all establishments opened into the market road a part cobblestone for walkers and part tar for vehicles a fine balance since there was no other access. The air was thin and the cool moist air sprayed a fine jet of rain on my face.
