Good road condition

May 5, 2015
Mode of Transport: Car

From Pune to Tarkarli via Kolhapur, Gagan bawada ghat road is convenient. The ghat section is around 32 -35 km which takes us to Kankavli at Mumbai Goa highway. One can start journey at early morning so that one can pass this ghat section before evening. The road is in good condition.

Mumbai-Goa highway is superb, good stop over

Mode of Transport: Car

If you are going from Pune, do not take the NH4 and avoid going via Kolhapur. It has worst roads. It is the shortest way but worst roads. Instead go via Konkan and connect to Mumbai-Goa Highway later. It is amazing. Food dhabas, petrol pumps are there on the road and its good if you stay in Konkan and then next day leave for Tarkarli. Thatís a good choice if only one person is going to drive.

Nine hours long journey by taxi

Jan 8, 2015
Mode of Transport: Taxi

Journey is very long so make sure you are travelling by bus or taxi with push-back seats. Route from Kolhapur - Gaganbavada road is horrible though google maps shows this route as its shortest distance. But if you are travelling from Pune take the highway route. While coming back we came via Sawnatwadi road and it is good.

Scenic route but bad route from Kolhapur to Gaganbawada

Jan 5, 2015
Mode of Transport: Car

A stretched journey of 7-8 hr. We started from Pune by early morning 6 am. The route from Kolhapur to Gaganbawada is bad. Gaganbawada ghat section is full of scenic views and rest of the route is good. It is better to have map of places around your destination to have a better trip.

Start early to beat the traffic

Oct 4, 2014
Mode of Transport: Car

In between except for the patch of around 70-80 km is in very bad condition, overall it was nice to have such great experience on the way. Preferred to start early morning to avoid traffic on the way and views are also very good during morning time. Please have it once by your own car or taxi.
