Beautiful scenic road drive

Mode of Transport: Car

Drove on the Mumbai Pune Expressway, which is a six-lane concrete, airspeed road. By Indian standards The distance spans around 110 km connecting Mumbai. It took around 3hrs to cover the distance, try leaving early in order to avoid the usual Mumbai traffic rush hour. The expressway begins at Kalamboli and ends at Dehu Road outskirts of Pune. The road drive is just a beautiful especially during the monsoons, the scenic Sahyadri mountain ranges passes through three tunnels. Once the expressway ends then it gets a bit congested like Mumbai and it could even take you a couple of hrs. To get to the heart of Pune city. So start early. There are some food malls on the way or if one wants a better choice then take a stopover at Lonavala/Khandala and then continue your onward journey or hop into this Parsee restaurant called Dorabjee's which is quite well known in Pune, to enjoy a typical Parsi meal.

Early morning drive to Pune

Mode of Transport: Taxi

Travelled by road to Pune on the Mumbai-Pune highway. Took me around 3 hours. Thankfully, traffic was low at toll-plazas. Had snack of bhel puri on the way along with a vada pav. The road is good and wasn't too busy this time of the day. The driver was good and let us know the good places for breakfast.

The car was running smoothly as the road was good and it has all adequate facility like emergency phones, ambulance service and exit to various places like Khopoli, Lonavala was also clearly defined with proper sign boards.

Mumbai to Pune via express-way!

Jan 29, 2016
Mode of Transport: Car

I have travelled many times from this express way. This is one of the most important and prominent express highway in India. It has reduced a lot of travel time between the two cities. And only those guys will understand this fact who have earlier ravelled by the old highway.

The lanes are sufficient to carry the traffic and properly planned. However there are few points that need attention like,
1) The speed
2) Accidents
3) Phone facilities
4) Security
5) Immediate Help (Helicopter)
6) Illegal exit and entry points. Apart from these, I personally like this route.

We started for Mulshi Early morning from Mumbai. The expressway was great in the winter. Fog was a constant companion. After leaving the expressway, we continued towards NH 4. Can stop for garam chai and fresh wada pav on the way. Lavasa city is also close.
