Train journey to Matheran was wonderful and we really enjoyed it a lot. My suggestion to others is that- reach the Neral Station early and experience the morning journey. The Nearl to Matheran train is a small train and does not have any toilet and fresh room. The food facility is only available at Neral and Matheran Station. Train timing are as follows- Neral-Matheran train time- 6:40 am, 9:10 am, 10:40 am. Return journey time- 1:00 pm, 3:25 pm, 4:40 pm.

"Bit tricky roads to Matheran "

The road to Matheran is a little bit tricky if you don\'t stop and ask for directions. So women drivers usually reach faster than men :) Don\'t depend solely on google maps, as we did. Once you reach Neral town, keep asking. Once on the road to Matheran, all is fine. Prepare for some steep turns. Climb them in first gear. Once you reach Matheran, you have to park the car, and then walk into Matheran as vehicles are not allowed inside. The car is quite safe in the parking. We took our driver along. We found him accommodation at the resort we staying at. There are a lot of inexpensive places to put up your driver in Matheran town.

"Great place to go trekking & more beautiful during monsoons"

We had been trekking, we went by car till the parking lot. Then you have an option to either by riding a horse or by train or walking up. We walked up, and walking along the toy train track was more enjoyable. You get to see some spots on your way up the hill. In monsoons it’s more fun, water keeps drizzling from the long trees and cool breeze as move up and up. There are major 12 spots to visit and many smaller ones. If you come from some very far place, then dedicate 2 days to enjoy the beauty. You can stay in hotels and can enjoy both the sunset and sunrise.

It takes 30 mins from Neral station to Aman Lodge. From there we need to walk for another hour to reach Matheran as vehicles are not allowed up there. The road from Neral to Matheran is just an experience to try. The steep slopes, turns, offers an awesome driving experience. The taxi drivers here drive like death riders Haha!
