A Shilong Tour

Dec 13, 2015
Mode of Transport: Taxi

We hired a Tavera Taxi for 3 days for Guwahati-Shilong-Cherapunji-Guwahati because our flight was on 26 jan from Guwahati. Shilong is just 100 km from Guwahati but a difficult hilly road and having expanding to 4 lane it takes about 3-4 hours to reach Shilong. However our driver of Tai was nice one. He show us additional places out of our knowledge on the way. However 26 Jan was called " BANDH" So we returned on 2nd day and previous day of flight.e. 25.1 at Guwahati.

Smooth scenic journey to the Scotland of the east

Mode of Transport: Car

I have traveled to Shillong after a gap of 6 years and I was really surprised to see the well developed 4 lane road to Shillong from Khanapara. The road is mostly open on 2 sides, except for few locations where it was blocked due to landslide. I had lunch on the way & coming back at Nongpoh - the Woodland dhaba. This dhaba has many items in its menu and prices are reasonable. Traffic was less and disciplined. The barapani lake provides a mesmerising view on the way to Shillong. You can stop by road side and admire the nature's beauty.

Overall, the journey is a memorable one.

Nice to visit Shillong. The roads were amazing to drive any car. The beautiful scenario of Shillong is mesmerise us. In the road, during transportation we halted for some time in Nogphu for tea and snacks. In the road all the amenities are available for tourists. There are no any problem we face during the journey. Our driver also a expert one. He made us reach Shillong in two and half hours. There are really huge road now a days built by the Government. Therefor tourists are now very much feel comfortable in the journey since traffic jams are less in number. The coolness of local people and their hospitality really provide us a great experience in the tour. We assumed the city is made by God. The people were so friendly and easily give the solution when people required.

Stretch of road near Guwahati is bad, throughout there are repairs in progress on the roads. After Barapani the roads and view was very beautiful. Couple of good Marwari dhabas on the way where you can take a break and have food/ snacks/ tea/ coffee. Time taken is about 3 hours with one stop. You can take a break at Barapani and enjoy lake view.
