Partly bumpy Ride

May 3, 2016
Mode of Transport: Car

Great to drive on GST road, later after taking left to Panruti and Neyveli the roads are not very good and takes a good three hours to drive the 100 odd kms. Narrow Roads, poor signages. We reached Kumbakonam in five hours covering 276 kms.

We hired a local driver at Kumbakonam, suggested by staff at Hotel Sivamurugan who doubled up as guide and took us around swiftly without wasting time.

Roads are very bad around Panruti

Jan 18, 2016
Mode of Transport: Car

We went from chennai in our own car. Took the chennai kumbakonam route which was very bad for more than half of the journey. But on return we took aduthurai-suriyanar-mayiladuthurai-vaitheeswaran koil-chidambaram-pondy-ecr-chennai which was somewhat better than the above.

Had a stopover for coffee at krishna cafe in vadalur which was so good and can be recommended. Way back chidhambaram can be a stop over.

Government can still increase signals to temples and places and routes all along these routes. But people were very helpful, kind and caring that they guides us in all means along.

Train journey was without any difficulties

Mode of Transport: Train

We had our reservation in advance. So journey was naturally to its best. We are proud of our South Indian Trains. We did not feel any disturbance at all. We reached Kumbakonam as per the schedule. Kumbakonam being religious place the railway station is also maintained religiously. There is no doubt in that. We even sat on the platform while returning. No other station in Tamil Nadu particularly can match it. One can do justice for that. Hats off to South Indian Railways. Though canteen is also equally good people are not finding sufficient seats to have their tiffin comfortably. Some seating arrangement around the canteen can be improved to cater to the needs of children and old age people. Plantations can be set up on the railway station which will attract more tourists as water is not a problem in Kumbakonam. Of course there is no prepaid call taxi facility which should be addressed immediately. Travel guides are not seen around the station. As there are temples around Kumbakonam local package tours can be encouraged in order to cover more places in a short span of time. This will boost local economy.

Roads are very good but rain slowed down the speed!!

Mode of Transport: Car

The roads on Highway on most of parts from Chennai to Kumbakonam is good. But sudden rains at times slows down the speed because of water logging at some areas. The level of hospitality with honesty and guidance needs improvement by local temple authorities for better crowd pulling and to enhance sense of spirituality!! Overall, it is good experience and had a good lessons!!

Lovely train ride but train was reasonably clean

Jul 25, 2015
Mode of Transport: Train

The train leaves around 8 in the morning and reaches Kumbakonam around 2 Pm. It stops at 10 Stations in between - This should not deter us if we choose an A/c 2 tier or A/c first class we can travel horizontally. The train kept the timing and food was sold inside the compartment by vendors.
The train was reasonably clean.
