A good journey

May 27, 2016
Mode of Transport: Car

I travelled to Sringeri recently and here are the details about the Route taken and the road conditions:

I took the below route:
Bangalore -> Nelamangala -> Hassan -> Belur -> Aldur -> Balehonnur -> Sringeri.

The road upto Hassan is wonderful. The road from Hassan to Belur is average and reduces the speed by a little bit. The road from Belur to Aldur is in very bad condition.This route has to be avoided.

Instead take this route.
Belur -> Chikmagalur -> Balehonnur -> Sringeri.

We took the above mentioned route while coming back and its in pretty good condition.

Belur, Halebeedu & Sravanabelagola can be visited on the way either while going or while coming back.

This was the first time I went to Sringeri by my own car and it was good. Especially after Chikkamagalur through the forest it was very good experience and also it was midnight when we reached. Plenty of good experience driving in ghat. Earlier I have visited this place in bus. We family enjoyed this trip by our own car Maruti 800.

A nice drive

Mode of Transport: Car

Went with family in my XUV. Travelled by nice road from Bannerghatta road to Tumkur road and then to Nelamangala and then took Hasan road. Hasan road (I think NH48) is amazing and you can easily drive at 140-150km. After a bad patch of a couple of KMs from Hassan, the road through Belur is very good though its just of two lanes. We stopped for lunch on the way to Belur (had packed food from home) and after relishing yummy Pulav, drove through Belur Bypass and then Chikmagalur bypass. Then you come across the ghat section with a lot of turns and bends. But its beautiful with a lot of coffee estates. Reached Sringeri in 6 hours from Nelamangala (about 300 KM) with a couple of breaks. What a lovely temple to visit in the evening.

Roads are in good condition but be careful since the road is narrow

Aug 19, 2015
Mode of Transport: Car

The roads were good all the way from Bellary to Sringeri. I drove in the night from Shimoga to Sringeri via N R Pura and Koppa. This road is good, and free from humps. The drive from Shimoga to Sringeri via Thirthahalli and Koppa, is scenic and can be enjoyed during the day; but you got to be careful since the road is narrow, unlike the N R Pura route. Being part of the Malnad, the drive to Sringeri is peaceful too, with abundant greenery all around.

Bus was not maintained well and amenities not good

Jul 29, 2015
Mode of Transport: Bus

We were about 28 people on a trip. So we had booked 20 sleepers and 8 seaters. But we got only 15 sleepers and rest 5 had to travel in seater. It was badly managed by the travel agency. Sleeper was not of great quality. Bed-sheets were dirty and not washed.
