We left bangalore by 8am and stopped at the VRL restaurant after tumkur after missing the sign board of Pavithra Hotel at Kyatsandra before tumkur. The breakfast was nice and the place was clean with clean toilets. Till chitradurga the drive was a breeze as we were on NH4. After Chitradurga town we took the road turning left from the tank bund i.e NH13 and headed towards shimoga. Apart from a few deviations due to road construction work the road way better than the other road (Shimoga-Arsikere-Bangalore road). We reached in time for lunch at our hotel.
Ksrtc a/c bus service from Bangalore to Shimoga. For breakfast & lunch the bus stops at decent hotel/restaurant. Bus service is good & maintains time. Comfortable journey. It's a pleasure to drive if you like the 2-lanes. Else take the 4-lane till Chitradurga followed by not so good roads till Shimoga. Shimoga tiger & Lion safari must see.
The Bangalore Mangalore highway is the best route as it has fairly less traffic. I had my own car and the overall journey costed Rs 4000 for fuel. The route had fairly good trees and the journey was painless to the eyes.
There are a few temples on the way though not big or famous. There is also a dam on the way. Carry lots of water as there are not good restaurants on the way and also carry reserve fuel just in case.
This route has:
Bangalore - Mangalore Hwy and Bangalore-Honavar Rd
