"Roads till Krishnagiri is just pathetic with bone breaking roads"

We went from Bangalore-Krishnagiri-Thiruvannamalai (Ramana Ashram)-Pondicherry. Please do not take this route unless you really have to. Its great till Krishnagiri and then its just pathetic with bone breaking roads. Instead take Bangalore-Krishnagiri-Vellore-Arcot-Vandavasi-Tindivanam-Pondicherry. This was the road that we took while returning. From Bangalore to Vellore is a six lane road where you can zoom till 80-100 kmph easily. Very minimal construction is going on. From Tindivanam again, there is a great 4 lane road till Pondicherry. Roads till Pondi are pretty good as its a Union Territory. Take this route to have a great trip (lush green fields on both sides and beautiful hills for some part of the journey).

We were two families in the car, 4 adults and 2 children. The drive till Krishnagiri is amazing. Once you turn off the highway and head into the road via Thiruvannamalai, the jumpy bumpy road greets you. It is a single road from the turn off highway and riddled with potholes. There are villages and towns you pass where you can buy stuff like water, juice and snacks. The major stop for refuelling your stomach will either have to be Chengam (average food) or Thiruvannamalai (pretty good food). At some places, you'll need to ask for directions. Being avid riders and drivers, having covered a lot of country roads, we found it kind of interesting rather than boring. We stopped at local chai shops, had conversations with the local people and then continued. Overall, a fun drive, but those ...Read More

      "Good six lane highway road"

One fine evening four friends just decided to take a road trip to Pondicherry. We started our journey at 6 30 in the morning from Hosur Road Bangalore. We took the NH-66. The roads are pretty good. There was a snitch at Krishnagiri where there was construction going on the highway. That apart the roads are six lane highways with smooth flowing traffic. The route is peppered with highway dhabas and tea stalls. There are some prominent hotels en-route. You can make a pit stop at Sarovar Portico near Hosur or McDonalds near Krishnagiri. After Vellore, one has to take the State highway towards Arcot. Now the State highway is not that maintained and there are fewer restaurants here. One can still easily buy water and cool drinks, but getting good food or bathrooms on this state highway is a ...Read More

"When driving from Bangalore to Pondicherry take NH46 and SH5"

We travelled from Bangalore (Malleshwaram) to Pondicherry by car. There are three possible routes but from our place the best will be the one via NH46. You would take NH7 till Krishnagiri at which point there is a left towards Vellore. The only downside with NH7 is that NH7 is crowded even for a national highway and there is a lot of lane changing by speeding drivers. Also there is almost always road repair works it seems and we had to spend half and hour in a traffic jam on a national highway! Once you enter NH46 driving is a breeze and you make up for lost time. Remember that at Arcot there is a right towards SH5. GPS is confusing here and we ended up driving over Palar bridge and spent more than half and hour to correct our route. We had to go to Bonjour Ocean Spray resort whic ...Read More

We started at 7. 30 am in the morning. The route taken was Bangalore-Hosur-Vellore-Kanchipuram-mahabalipuram-pondicherry. We stayed in Mahabalipuram for 2 days and then reached pondicherry. The review about mahabalipuram is also given. But, here I will concentrate on pondicherry. The route for throughout the journey is GREAT. About 15% of the journey is little rough as it goes through the village. ECR highway is also good, but was under repair in many places. Rest of the way was 6 lane road. Average speed of car 110Km/hr. Total journey time with breaks about 5 hrs. Distance 370 Km approx.

Sorry, we could not find preference of Travellers for this route.
