Fine place for a weekend trip

Jun 3, 2016
Mode of Transport: Car

It was another bike trip in the month of February to Sangam-Mekedatu located about 100km away from Bangalore. Road to the place is not that impressive, it is a single road without any proper maintenance.

We reached Sangam after a travel of 3 hours. It is safe to park bikes over there with helmets. Fine scenic place, some take Bath and some sit in mid of the river(what we did).

To reach Mekedatu, we crossed the river and took the bus towards it (which has some service fees). In Mekedatu you will see fine stream of water runs in between the rocks. But the power of the stream depends on the season you are visiting. Sad thing is - you can see this only from top. There is no proper way to come down to the water. I consider it as a safe precaution and order to avoid some accidents.

After leaving Sangam we moved towards Chunchi falls which is at a distance of 10 km. There is a small village which comes on the way, to reach this fall you can take help from the people over there.

You can only see this fall from some distance that too after tracking from the place where you have parked the vehicle. Not much attractive, you can visit this place if you have some time left for the day.

Roads were excellent with good temples on the way

Nov 30, 2015
Mode of Transport: Car

I left around 10am from Bangalore and reached the destination in 4 hrs along with a pitstop at Pyramid Valley. There are not much trees or enjoyable traffic on the way but the destination is worth it. It cost me less than Rs 1000 on fuel. The roads are pretty narrow but manageable. There is a temple of Ganesh on the way with a huge statue and also yoga place called Pyramid Valley which is quite famous. Make sure to pack your lunch at Kanakapura itself as there are no restaurants after this. There are a few petrol bunks on the way. Carry lots of water on the way and also make sure to have your shoes on.

Best journey with good views along with beautiful scenery

Mode of Transport: Car

We a group of 7 people took the car to reach mekedatu via the kanakpura road. We left around 10am and it took less than 2 hrs to reach kanakpura where we packed food and left for another half hour journey to mekedatu. We parked our vehicles at Sangam and took a boat and bus ride to mekedatu which cost us Rs 100(both ways) to reach the destination.

There are no proper eateries in this place, hence pack your food at Kanakpura itself and I would also recommend you to visit Pyramid valley on the way. The speed of the water is too much during rainy season and hence be wary of currents.

Make sure to wear boots as the water contains glass pieces and don't venture into deep water as the currents are too strong in the middle.

Nice smooth drive on Kanakapura Road

Mar 26, 2015
Mode of Transport: Taxi

Booked zoom car one Sunday morning and left for Mekedatu. Searched for the best route in early morning and found that the one via Lalbagh and connecting to Kanakapura road is the best, no tolls as well. We were out of Bangalore in around 40 minutes, starting from Hebbal.

Driving on Kanakapura Road is nice except tackling the buses (both government and private) who drive in high speeds. GPS on Zoom Car was useful and helped me in negotiating the correct turn on to the Mekedatu Sangam Road from Kanakapura Road. The Sangam Road is good except that it's a bit high altitude and many hair pin bends on the way. View is awesome all along this road, with beautiful hills, semi dense jungle. KSTDC hotel allows parking with booking only.

We started the return next day, Monday at 5 so that we can reach the city before the morning rush. The drive was smooth except a close shave at a blind turn where a private bus was overtaking a government one. While return we took the nice road and returned via HMT Layout.

The road to Mekedatu is good and is about two hourís journey. The place is neat and clean. The restaurant over there was awesome and comparatively cheap. Nice waterfall and smooth rocks nice boat journey and nice bus journey. Little bit risky so please try to visit with your parents. They will also have their lifetime experience.
