"Enjoyed the Journey before the Destination!!"

We (me, my spouse, kid, and my friend's family) planned our vacations to Kodaikanal. Though the distance of 460km was daunting, we still decided to travel by car than bus (which most people suggested). Google and most other travel portals (like Team BHP) suggested to take the regular route via Salem. But I was totally against it as I always believed that the journey itself has to be more colorful and should be enjoyed before even reaching the final destination. Hence I decided to explore alternate routes to reach Kodai. The first Option was via Ooty > Coimbatore > Palani > Kodai. This would have increased the distance by almost 70+ kms and also the route was scenic only partially. Hence I experimented with another route and here it is: Bangalore > Kanakapura > Malavalli > Kollega ...Read More

Used Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) Volvo service. The bus service was on time both ways but the bus condition was not so good. In some of the seats the push back was not working and caused inconvenience. On our journey back there were heavy rains and water started seeping into the bus which was least expected in a premium service like Volvo. Overall the buses on this route should be better maintained.

The route from Bengaluru to Kodaikanal that I took was AH43/NH7. I felt that It is better to start early in the morning in order to avoid rush hour traffic in and around the Electronics city area. I left around 6:00am from Bengaluru. After crossing into Tamil Nadu the road was pretty good all the way from Hosur to Kodaikanal. I drove via Salem (bypass) and Erode. Except for a few stretches, I could drive close to the speed limit most of the way. As I was travelling with family that included small kids, we had to make a few short stops along the way. Despite that, we were able to reach Kodaikanal before 1:00pm. As we had packed breakfast before leaving, we didn't have to stop at any restaurants along the way. There is not much of sightseeing along the way unless you specifically plan ...Read More

I headed to Kodaikanal in my own vehicle self driving. The highway drive was not at all tiring. Except for the hefty tolls which we feel its all through the way. The ghat section drive was of awesome experience. Good weather during the ghat drive. Cool breeze. Good restaurants are available. For breakfast, had been to a restaurant where also CCD, McDonald's and a fuel station was available. It is just before Krishnagiri. Overall, good driving experience.

Comfortable and safe journey. The taxi driver was so humble and he drove very cautiously at the hilly regions. We felt very safe because of his good driving. Also the route was good and the driver was very responsible during the complete journey. The taxi was almost new and in very good condition and the driver had good knowledge about the route we took. Also he suggested us some good locations on the way to Kodaikanal. We had a very relaxed, enjoyable and safe journey which made our holiday more enjoyable. Also the route we took was having many scenic locations.
