Comfortable train journey but lack of pantry

Aug 23, 2015
Mode of Transport: Train

This is one of the most comfortable ways to reach Jog falls- Train is slightly slow allowing us to get good sleep- got coach in S1 which was about 8th coach from the loco- Journey was quite comfortable despite being a weekend (15th August)- Unreserved passengers were barred from entering reserved coaches and RPF kept constant vigil over the passengers- Leaves Bangalore at 23:00 and has capacity to reach Talaguppa by 7 though scheduled arrival is 7:15

PS: H1-B2-B1 (A/C coaches) are attached near the engine at Bangalore while the remaining rake comes from Mysore as passenger reaching Bangalore at 22:30 hrs.

During long weekends and season time tickets have to be booked a month in advance- Or else its easy to get the 15 days notice- 2 Sleeper coaches (SE! & SE 2) are attached next to engine and said to be noisy

No food available.

Bus was late to boarding point and lack of amenities

Jun 29, 2015
Mode of Transport: Bus

We booked KSRTC Airavat from Bangalore - Shimoga. Bus arrived nearly 30 minutes late. Seats as usual are uncomfortable, no proper leg space.

The whole journey, the A/C wasn't switched on. We kept asking the conductor regarding this and he said the driver switched it off for some time. It was suffocating as hell.

Journey after reaching Shimoga had been a pleasure. We took a private non-A/c bus till Jog Falls from there, much more comfortable than the Airavat.

On the way back we took KSRTC Rajahamsa till Shimoga, which was much spacious and comfortable than Airavat.

The journey was good. We started during night time and it took us around 15 hours to reach the destination which was Shimoga, from there we have booked a cab in advance to stay away from the hassles. It took us around 2 hours to reach Jog Falls from Shimoga and the total experience of the journey was worth the time and money spent.

Better travel at night so that will be reaching early morning

Oct 28, 2014
Mode of Transport: Bus

I travelled from Bangalore to Shimoga by KSRTC non A/C seater bus (Karnataka Sarige). The service was good, reached Shimoga by the mentioned time. For people who are aged or have small kids it is better to go for volvo buses like Airavata, SRS, SRE or VRL. The journey was for 6 hours, wherein we were given stops at Tumkur and Birur. In volvo buses they provided water, blankets, movies and charging points but not in normal buses. Its better to reserve the tickets and plan your trip. Travelling in the night will be better because you will reach Shimoga by early morning, then there are lot of private buses which will take you to jog falls in hardly 2 hours. Better to carry some food items because the food near jog falls is little bit different from that of Bangalore.
